Waste management in the US
When we speak of waste management, the US has rules, regulations and agencies in place to monitor the management of solid waste. The monitoring bodies also make sure to collaborate with Federal, State, Local and Regional authorities in order to maintain a uniformity in the waste management and disposal process. The main motive is to manage the waste effectively, and the collective idea for the same is to make it happen across industries, household and commercial stakeholders as well.
The ideas for effective waste management and disposal are generated from the producers themselves and also understand the ways and places any possible recycled material could be used.
Effective waste management for solid waste includes managing hazardous as well as non-hazardous waste. What constitutes as non-hazardous waste is given below:
Household waste such as garbage, small garden waste, terrace garden organic waste etc.
Industrial waste nonpoisonous waste, treated water, production waste.
Organic (degradable) waste animal waste from farms, agricultural discards, manure, and so on.
Similarly, the list for hazardous waste is also given below:
Industrial Medical waste, chemical waste, nuclear waste, etc.
Household lights, batteries, oils, paints and so on.
There are various other kinds of waste and they are categorized by how and where they are to be treated. The US government has also recognized some of its best waste collecting centers and rewards them accordingly. This is to encourage the waste management as a concept. The concept has been introduced in academics in several institutions too.
Today, we have a lot of advanced methodologies for better waste management. The more we promote the concept, the more minds we can influence and use for pooling of ideas. The US government has not left any stone unturned for making it a success. From consumer/producer training and knowledge sharing, connecting similar mindset folks and communities raising the awareness, everything is being tried and tested. We will have a long, sustainable future, provided we our present better.
